ESPERANTO • The Esperanto flag was approved in August during the 1st Esperanto World Congress in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France.
MONTENEGRO • Montenegro adopted a new constitution on December 19. Around this time, a tricolour state flag started supplanting the red one, although the old version stuck around as a military flag.
SWEDEN • Norway voted overwhelmingly to dissolve its Union with Sweden on August 13. After some months of negotiation, the union was formally dissolved on October 25, and Sweden removed the Union Mark from its flag on November 1. Norway had already removed the mark in 1899.
VENEZUELA • On March 28, the cluster of stars was rearranged into a ring.
